Death claims another. RIP Mitchell Lucker.

Mitchell Lucker, frontman for the band Suicide Silence, died Thursday of injuries in a Southern California motorcycle crash. He was 28.

I had to share. Good first post eh? Yes that is Mastodon.

RIP Tony Sly

Terrible, terrible news today from the Fat Wreck website. Tony Sly, frontman of No Use For A Name, has passed away at age 41. No news yet on cause of death. I can't even begin to tell you the impact that these guys had on me, especially their earlier stuff. "The Daily Grind" was without a doubt one of my all time favorite albums growing up. I had a copied cassette that I picked up from somebody along the way that I absolutely wore thin. I remember in the early 00's seeing them in Las Vegas and at that time they had pretty well distanced themselves from any of their early stuff and were refusing to play any of it. I had seen them countless times before and they would not play anything before "Leche Con Carne", well I don't know what wild hair they got but for an encore that night they played "Feeding The Fire", the place absolutely exploded and went nuts. It was one of the greatest punk moments I've had. Tony will be missed greatly and all of us at Leather send out our thoughts and prayers to the Sly family.

Gotta admit...

...never even saw this one coming, at all. So Tom Gabel (vocalist of Against Me!) is reportedly soon slated to soon become Laura Jane Grace! Yeah he'll soon begin undergoing electrolysis treatments (hair removal) and hormonal therapy to assist in his transition to life as a woman. Look, here's the thing, as long as Laura keeps on kickin' out the jams and doesn't lose the amazingly awesome gravely voice for the revolution I could give two beans, you know? His (er I mean her now)wife supports her so who am I to say any different. Just so happens to be one of the biggest shockers to come out of punk in a good long while, hence this post. Oh and I've been crazy busy too, but how could I let this go without mentioning our dearly departed Adam Yauch. We'll always save a spot for MCA on first chair for Snowbird bluebirds!
This is their song "The Ocean" where Tom actually sings "and if I could've chosen, I'd have been born a woman, my mother once told she would have named me Laura"

Ume

Dude, awesome song by trio Ume. Kind of sludgy, kind of pop a la Torche. This chick seriously goes crazy with a guitar.

one nine nine four

Looks like a sweet documentary.  If only they had the money to pay for the music used so they could release the entire film.

Stars and Stripes....

Dead Kennedys.  I will not be responsible if you want to go steal something or overthrow the government after listening to this catchy little tune.

Red Fang Part Dos

So I posted Red Fang's video for Prehistoric Dog, which in case if you didn't see find it on youtube right now. They are so great in their videos that I just had to post a couple new ones. Sludge metal at it's finest...harder than Queens of the Stone Age and a whole lot uglier.

Seriously now, even if you've already seen it go watch Prehistoric Dog again...oh fine, just, here it is..."Fireball! Fireball!"

NOFX

Warped Tour, Pomona, Moscow.... I've seen these guys all over the world and i hope they never give up. They are great. My favorite was seeing them in Moscow and half way through the show i realized that I was the only one laughing at their jokes. Silly Russians.

Psychobilly

Here's a little post to a couple of my favorite psychobilly bands. The first being none other than Tiger Army...man these guys are unreal. Couldn't love them more. If the backing vocals on some tracks sound familiar it's because these guys all grew up with Davey Havok and the AFI boys in Ukiah, California. In fact the now former bass player for TA, Geoff Kresge (now current Horrorpops guitarist and Viva Hate bassist) was AFI's bassist for the first few albums. TIGER ARMY NEVER DIE!!!

Next up is another great crew from Copenhagen, Denmark, the Nekromantix. Dude has his very own custom built coffin shapped double upright with a crucifix for the key box...doesn't get anymore halloween than that! I've seen these guys a few times live and every time they simply blew me away.

GB...and Minor Threat

Dude, there are very, very few bands that are closer to my heart than Gorilla Biscuits. Seriously probably the greatest hardcore band to come out of NY...sorry SOIA. When I was a kid growing up we used to go to Lake Powell every year with the Adams and the two longest held traditions of those trips were stealing one of the girls cameras to take all sorts of pictures of our bare asses and the second was a yearly Gorilla Biscuits lip sync on the houseboat.

This is probably the only other band that comes close. Ian is seriously the man and I love any band that he's pretty well been associated with Egg Hunt, The Evens, and of course the mighty Fugazi.

Raised Fist

Talk about a band who's songs all sound exactly the same and yet I don't know what it is but I could just listen to them over and over again. These guys are on Sweden I believe and are or at least were on the Swedish Epitaph imprint label Burning Heart Records. Great, great stuff.

Gallows

This song gets the ol' blood flowing like no other. I'm convinced that there is not another 150 lbs in this world that is badder and more pissed off than Frank Carter. They've got a new vocalist these days that, while good enough, sure is no Frank.

Ten Foot Pole and Scott Radinsky

Well since QAE opted to discuss both Radinsky bands but not include video from the other I figured I would finish the job for him. This band was great and I absolutely loved Rev. The new singer didn't quite do it for me and I pretty well stopped following them after Scott left.

And just for good measure here's one from his original band Scared Straight whom later went on to change their name to Ten Foot Pole because they didn't want to be affiliated with straight edge. More hardcore-ish and less skate punkish.

Pulley and Scott Radinsky

Tough to beat Pulley. This song got me hooked years ago after Scott Radinsky left Ten Foot Pole. He's not the typical punk; MLB pitcher, current pitching coach for the Cleveland Indians, etc. Intriguing guy, and really interesting live. I know that when he was starting Pulley he was pitching for the Dodgers. I love old TFP, old and new Pulley. Enjoy.
